Ships are complex products with unique set of requirements and constraints. With reduction in dedicated marine engineering courses at the UK Universities in the later years, majority of mechanical engineering design on ships is carried out by engineers with generic mechanical degrees. This course is designed to help engineers adapt to the marine industry and better understand the requirements and the design process.

This course is aimed at Mechanical Engineers entering the ship design / shipbuilding industry. The course touches on ship specific disciplines, such as naval architecture, however the main focus is on the mechanical engineering aspects of design and aims to provide engineers with practical knowledge to allow them to carry out mechanical engineering activities within the ship design context.
